Interviewing Our Dream Team
Laurence is from French speaking Canada and has been here over a year and a half. She first heard about Rosemary from workaway, a work exchange site for travellers and hosts. She ended up coming here to do our Heart Attack program and then started living within the community. Our dogs here at Rosemary love Laurence and follow her around wherever she goes!
What one thing do you do every day or most days for your own wellbeing?
Spend time in nature.
And for the wellbeing of others or your community?
It used to be dancing, we used to dance everyday. I still sometimes lead ecstatic dance workshops here.
When you were younger what did you imagine that you would do when you grew up?
I wanted to be lots of things and I still wanna be lots of things! It changed a lot.
What inspires you to live your optimal way of life?
It’s a feeling. When it just feels right. You don’t not wanna live your optimal way of life so what can you do to live it? It’s following your heart, knowing what feels good for you.
What makes you feel connected to nature?
For me, connected to nature is being connected to myself, closer to my true self. The more time I spend time in nature, the closer I am to myself, my sense, who i wanna be, this purity and child inside – closer to everything!
Which one book has most influenced the way that you live?
Lot’s of books. Right now it would be The Tao of Pooh. I feel all the answers are in simplicity when you don’t try, you just are. The Tao of Pooh is the most simple and genuine way to explain that without trying to be intellectual. It’s so accessible, it’s not something to preach, it just is.
Is there one thing that you could never travel without?
I couldn’t travel without having nature around, it would scare me to be in the big city. Or my jar of honey!
What are you grateful for today?
It’s such a beautiful day, there are so many things. I’m grateful to be inspired, when you have that flame in your heart and you still have so much space for growth and discovery and there’s a whole world of possibilities. This feeling is such a beautiful thing to have.
Tell me something you are proud of:
I’m proud to always have followed what I thought was true. I always followed without letting fear come in. I followed what I thought in the moment was the best for me. Since I was young I went after everything I wanted and I worked for it.
Sum up your experience of Rosemary in three words:
Experiential. Authentic. Transformational.
